Liverpool FC to miss out on Mbappe, but keep Coutinho

Liverpool’s hopes of signing one of Europe’s hottest young talents looks to be over.

The chances of the Reds landing Kylian Mbappe may have always felt like pure fantasy – but they now appear to be at an end after reports emerged suggesting the Monaco wonderkid will be signing elswhere.

Elite clubs across Europe have been scrambling to attract Mbappe after the 18-year-old Frenchman enjoyed a glittering campaign last season, helping the French outfit to the semi-finals of the Champions League and the Ligue 1 title.

It would have taken a club – or even world – record deal to prise Mbappe from Monaco, but according to Marca, he only wants to join Real Madrid this summer.

The Spanish giants are long said to have lead the race for Mbappe, and it’s reported that they are ready to make him their latest ‘Galactico’ this summer.

But there has been a boost for Jurgen Klopp's side from another Spanish giant, with Barcelona seemingly looking unlikely to sign Philippe Coutinho, writes the Liverpool Echo.

Barca have long been linked with a move for Liverpool’s star man, but the Catalan giants have moved for both Marco Veratti and Everton winger Gerard Deulofeu.

That would appear to rule out a move for Coutinho, with both players covering positions Coutinho could play in should he have made the move to the Camp Nou.
