Will Smith hasn’t dropped a full-length, studio project since 2005’s Lost and Found. In terms of singles, the less said about Smith’s recent EDM offering “Get Lit,” the better. That doesn’t mean the man formerly known as the Fresh Prince doesn’t still hit the booth. Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff released Code Red, their fifth and last studio album together, all the way back in 1993.

“I’ve been getting hyped about it,” Smith told HipHopDX, when asked about the prospect of releasing new music. “It [has] been a minute. I’ve been full in the actor’s mind so me and Jeff start going out a little bit in the last six-to-eight months [and] we’ve been doing something.”

Much like his movie career, there were times when Smith’s “lane” was very commercially successful. Per Billboard, Smith has sold upwards of 9 million solo albums back in 2014, with 1998’s Big Willie Style accounting for 6 million alone. Jaden and Willow’s dad also has a pair of chart toppers with “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It” and “Wild Wild West,” while “Switch,” “Miami” and “Just The Two of Us” all placed in the top 20.

As for the matter of Smith getting back to bars instead of faux EDM bass drops, that remains to be seen. Smith added that he was trying to “find that lane; find that way back in.” And since the multi-platinum rapper turned actor claimed to have “a ton of stuff” stashed away at his house, maybe whatever he did in the studio with Kanye West will eventually see the light of day.
