Michael Owen has admitted that Liverpool FC are in need of defensive reinforcements in the January transfer window.
The Reds let a three-goal lead slip on Tuesday night as they were pegged back by Sevilla to draw 3-3 in their Champions League clash in Spain.
Liverpool FC’s defensive performances have been put under the spotlight this season, with the Reds having conceded more goals than any of the other teams above them in the Premier League table.
The Merseyside outfit are bound to be linked with a host of players in the coming weeks as the January transfer window draws ever nearer.
And former Liverpool FC star Owen believes that it’s important that the Reds do try and bring in some defensive reinforcements in the new year.
Speaking to BT Sport after Tuesday night’s game, Owen said: “Defensively they need more cover. Will that happen over January? It’s a possibility.”
The Reds were heavily linked with a move to sign Virgil van Dijk from Southampton in the summer but the switch failed to materialise.
Liverpool FC return to Premier League action on Saturday evening with a crunch clash against Chelsea at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp’s men head into the game in fifth place in the table but know that a win would put them level on points with Antonio Conte’s side heading into the hectic festive period in the Premier League.
