Star Wars Battlefront 2 developer EA is facing a backlash, as fans take to Reddit to criticise the game’s DLC model.

With the Star Wars Battlefront 2 release date just a few days away, fans have discovered the true cost of unlocking hero characters like Darth Vader.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 won’t have a season pass, but players will need to spend in-game credits to unlock new characters.

A new report suggests Star Wars Battlefront 2 characters will cost 60,000 in-game credits, which will take an estimated 40 hours of playtime to earn.

EA has responded to the controversy on Reddit, telling fans that it will continue to make changes based on daily data.

More controversially, EA said that it wants to provide players with a sense of accomplishment.

“Our goal involves creating a compelling progression path for all of our players,” EA explains.

“There’s a lot of content at launch with even more coming via live service, and we’ll continuously adjust our progression mechanics to give players a sense of accomplishment as they explore all of Battlefront 2.”

Unfortunately for EA, fans still aren’t happy, and the EA statement has become one of the most downvoted comments on Reddit.

“We selected initial values based upon data from the Open Beta and other adjustments made to milestone rewards before launch,” the post continues.

“Among other things, we’re looking at average per-player credit earn rates on a daily basis, and we’ll be making constant adjustments to ensure that players have challenges that are compelling, rewarding, and of course attainable via gameplay.

“We appreciate the conversation here, and our team is working to make the best choices possible for the game and the players. We will provide more details and updates as we can.”

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is out now on EA Access ahead of its full November 17 release date.

EA Access subscribers on Xbox One and PC can play ten hours of the game ahead of launch. This includes online multiplayer and three campaign missions.

It was also revealed that from December 13, fans will be able to play as Finn and Captain Phasma by unlocking them with credits.

That’s on top of new chapters in the story mode, as you join Commander Iden Versio during the days of the First Order’s rise to power.
