Roberto Firmino has talked up Philippe Coutinho’s importance to Liverpool FC as the uncertainty about his future at Anfield continues.
Coutinho’s situation has been a relentless source of speculation in recent months after he was heavily linked with a transfer to Barcelona over the summer.
The Brazilian playmaker was strongly linked with a switch to Camp Nou and also reportedly handed in a transfer request in a bid to force through a move.
However, Liverpool held firm and decided to keep their talismanic forward, and the playmaker has since been reintegrated into the first team set-up at Anfield.
Coutinho’s situation could well be another source of speculation in the come weeks as the January transfer window draws closer.
Now, his Brazilian and club team-mate Firmino has spoken about the importance of the Reds keeping hold of the 25-year-old forward in the coming months and seasons.
Speaking in an interview with the Independent, Firmino said: “It helps having Coutinho with me.
“He’s a ‘differential’ who helps swing games.
“The fact we’re together day to day at Liverpool means we have a good understanding, so we can use that in Brazil games.”
Liverpool are currently preparing to return to Premier League action this weekend when they take on Southampton at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
The Reds head into the game looking to build on their impressive 4-1 victory over West Ham United before the international break, although they are still 12 points behind leaders Manchester City.
