Sergio Aguero has given Manchester City a scare after fainting during the half-time interval of Argentina’s friendly against Nigeria.
The 29-year-old scored in the 4-2 defeat at Krasnodar’s Stadium in Russia but failed to come out for the second half.
Aguero, who recovered from broken ribs to resume playing this month, was taken to hospital for checks after his collapse in the dressing room.
The Argentine Football Association said on its Twitter account that the Manchester City forward ‘had a blackout and was taken (to hospital) so routine examinations were made only as a precaution.’
Argentina manager Jorge Sampaoli confirmed the situation on the federation website, stating: ‘Sergio (Aguero) got dizzy and had to leave at half-time.’
The player has since returned to the team hotel with the rest of the squad.
Manchester City later released a statement to confirm the forward was given the all clear to travel back to the UK, where he will be assessed ahead of the Premier League clash with Leicester City at the weekend.
Sergio Aguero has been cleared by doctors to return to Manchester as planned after suffering a dizzy spell during Argentina’s 4-2 defeat by Nigeria in Krasnodar today,’ it read.
‘Sergio never lost consciousness, and was taken to hospital for precautionary medical checks. He will be assessed by the club’s medical team ahead of this weekend’s Premier League trip to Leicester City.’
Referencing a previous heart problem, Argentinian team doctor Donato Villani told reporters: ‘He felt bad twice, and with the medical history he has, since he was operated on when he was 15, we wanted to be sure it was nothing.

‘We took him to hospital to make sure everything was normal, we prefer to wait to be sure.’
Aguero’s first-half strike had helped his side into a 2-0 lead, but that advantage disappeared.
Former City team-mate Kelechi Iheanacho had given the Super Eagles hope with a goal before the break, and it was another Premier League star, Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi, that inspired a second-half comeback, as he grabbed two goals.
Meanwhile, City have expressed an interest in Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Claudio Gomes.
The 17-year-old France Under-18 international is highly-rated by coaching staff in Paris and has figured for them in the UEFA Youth League.
