Liverpool FC are worried that they could lose Emre Can on a free transfer to Manchester City next summer, according to reports in the British media.
The Daily Star is reporting that Can could end up signing for Pep Guardiola’s men at the end of the current campaign as his contract ticks down at Anfield.
Can’s situation at the Merseyside club has been a relentless source of speculation in recent months after Liverpool’s failure to agree a new deal with the German midfielder, despite having opened talks about a new contract some time ago.
The 23-year-old would be free to speak to foreign clubs in January but the latest reports in the British media are suggesting that the midfielder could be a target for Guardiola’s side next year.
Juventus are also being linked with a move for Can, but the same report claims that the Italian side fear that they would not be able to compete with Manchester City for his signature.
Can has scored one goal and made two assists in 13 appearances in all competitions so far this season, and he played the full 90 minutes as Liverpool beat West Ham 4-1 at the London Stadium before the international break.
Liverpool host Southampton when the Premier League returns next weekend.
