Kate Middleton and Prince William are set to welcome their third child after Kensington Palace announced their big baby news.

The Duchess of Cambridge’s pregnancy announcement came as a surprise to royal fans who thought she was done after Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

But when is Kate Middleton’s due date and is this baby a boy or girl?

Here’s all the Duchess of Cambridge’s baby details from bump to birth…

Kate Middleton twins

While there’s nothing to suggest Kate is expecting more than one baby and twins don’t appear to run in either family, it has led to questions over what would happen to the royal succession to the throne if she were expecting two babies.

The rules were changed so that gender is no longer an overriding factor, meaning Princess Charlotte will not see her position slip if the new baby is a boy.

Until as recently as 2012, if a royal had twins and they were a boy and a girl, it would be the boy who automatically got to wear the crown.

But now, if Kate ever had twins and had a girl and a boy, it would be the first-born who succeeds, regardless of gender.

Kate Middleton’s first public appearance

The Duchess of Cambridge made her first public appearance on World Mental Health Day.

Kate wore a blue Temperley London dress for the occasion as the first hint of baby bump was seen.

The dress cost £795, and some fans believed the colour meant she was having a baby boy.

Royal baby number 3 godparents

According to royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie could play a big part in the new baby’s life.

Explaining to Express.co.uk, he said: “It is possible Beatrice or Eugenie might be a godparent to the new baby.”

If true, it will be the second time the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have broken royal tradition after failing to make any members of the royal family Princess Charlotte’s godparents, instead opting for a member of Princess Diana’s family.

Prince William to leave Kate for a week

Since announcing Kate Middleton’s pregnancy, the adorable royal family have kept out of the public eye as she recovers from her serious morning sickness.

However, it’s been confirmed Prince William will be leaving his pregnant wife and children behind as he has to return to his public duties, and this time it’s in New Zealand.

Kensington Palace’s Twitter account confirmed: “The Duke of Cambridge, representing HM The Queen, will attend the New Zealand Commemoration for the Battle of Passchendaele on 12th October.”

Prince William updates public on morning sickness

Kate Middleton’s husband attended a charity reception and awards ceremony for the Metropolitan and City Police Orphans Fund where he chatted to Iris Orrell, 98, about the Duchess’ pregnancy.

Iris asked the Prince how Kate was doing, to which he responded: “She’s been feeling better, thank you.”

He also revealed they had been using old fashion remedies to help Kate with her morning sickness.

Prince William said: “Ginger biscuits, but there is not much ginger can do to stop that. We’ve done all that.”

Kate Middleton’s first public appearance

Kensington Palace have announced the pregnant Duchess’ first public appearance is just around the corner.

Kate is suffering with, hyperemesis gravidarum – a severe form of morning sickness – which has forced her to cancel royal appointments, however, she is thought to be well enough to attend an event at Buckingham Palace for World Mental Health Day.

Taking to Twitter, Kensington Palace confirmed: “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry will attend a reception at Buckingham Palace on World Mental Health Day.”

World Mental Health Day 2017 is Tuesday 10 October, so just around the corner.

Royal baby’s first gift revealed

Prince William and Kate Middleton have been given their first baby gift, ahead of the new arrival.

On a visit to the Spitalfields Crypt Trust, in London, on September 19, the dad of two was presented with three hand-carved wooden owls.

The birds were made by students at the Restoration Station – a furniture workshop which is part of the charity.

Prince Harry’s brother described the unique gifts – one for each of his children – as “very nice” and thanked the students for making them.

The Duchess of Cambridge’s due date

Prince William may have let slip that his wife has reached the 12-week mark in September 2017.

After receiving congratulations from an audience member at the National Mental Health and Policing conference in Oxford, the future king said: “Thank you, it’s very good news. There’s not much sleep going on at the moment.”

He then added: “It was a bit anxious to start with,” but that they can “start celebrating this week”.

Kate Middleton on juggling three kids

Holly Willoughby drew comparison between herself and the Duchess of Cambridge, speaking on Lorraine, she said: “By the time the third one comes along you’re on a role, you know what you’re doing…or you know you’re never going to know what you’re doing.

“You can sort of amble your way through it a bit more, by this time round – she knows what she’s doing. She’s a great mother.”

Comparing the royal children to her own three kids, Harry, 8, Belle, 6, and two-year-old Chester, Holly added: “If she has a boy it will be same, boy, girl, boy.”

Kate Middleton’s birthing plan

According to the Daily Mail, Princess Charlotte’s mum could be swapping St. Mary’s hospital for a home birth.

Royal babies used to always be born at home, sometimes with the royal secretary present too so they could ensure there was no “foul play”. That rule changed after 1944.

The Queen herself delivered her four children at Clarence House.

The reason why? It’s thought the overwhelming crowds of fans, news crews and paparazzi is too much for the mum to be.

However, neither Kate or William have confirmed or denied the reports.

Hyperemesis gravidarum

Kate Middleton, 36, had a tough pregnancy with both Prince George and Princess Charlotte after suffering with hyperemesis gravidarum.

Unfortunately, the Duchess of Cambridge has been struck with the severe morning sickness again and has already cancelled royal engagements.

Kensington Palace revealed: “As with their previous two pregnancies, The Duchess is suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum. Her Royal Highness will no longer carry out her planned engagement at the Hornsey Road Children’s Centre in London today.
