But the decision to put Federer’s clash with world number 55 Jan-Lennard Struff on the night session on Rod Laver Arena over Novak Djokovic’s match with Gael Monfils, which is scheduled to be the third match in the day session.
One fan wrote on Twitter: “Can’t wait to see the blockbuster Djokovic vs Monfils match.
“If it’s anything like the US open SF match, then the #AusOpen will regret it for not scheduling it at night instead of the Federer match.”
A Djokovic fan wrote: “A game between Novak Djokovic and Gael Monfils is played in day session! And Federer vs Struff is played at night?! This is funny :). Is Novak ever gonna play a night session?”
Another said: “Swap the djokovic monfils game with the federer one. Stupid that they decided federer should be a night match.
One fan sent a tweet to the official Australian Open account saying: “WHY is Federer vs Struff on the night session instead of Djokovic vs Monfils???
“And this is the second night session match in a row for Roger. So unfair. Please show more respect to your SIX time champion Novak Djokovic!”
Maria Sharapova will open play on Rod Laver, the first time she’s played on the court since her drugs ban.
